RESTORING THE RIDE: WHAT OUR CUSTOMERS SAY
At Inoue Boring, we’re dedicated to helping riders restore the original feel of their beloved vintage motorcycles—whether it’s the sharp response of a 2-stroke or the deep pulse of a 4-stroke engine. Our mission is to bring classic machines back to life, just the way they were meant to ride. Nothing inspires us more than hearing how our work has helped preserve that authentic riding experience. Here are a few stories from customers who share the same passion.

“Virtually No Wear”—ICBM™ Lives Up to Its Promise
"I’ve ridden about 4,000 km since installing the ICBM™, and during a recent inspection, I checked the condition of the cylinders and pistons. The crosshatch pattern showed almost no wear, and any vertical scratches were so minimal that they couldn’t even be felt by fingernail. It truly lives up to the promise of ‘virtually no wear’—that’s my honest impression.
The pistons are standard size with WPC treatment. While there was a slight carbon buildup on the piston heads and cylinder head, it came off easily with light cleaning, and the internal condition was excellent overall.
I’ve disassembled quite a few engines over the years, but cylinders treated with ICBM™ are clearly on another level. I’m thoroughly impressed with both the durability and finish."

Elegance Reborn: Restoring My Mach Ⅲ with Modern Craftsmanship
More than half a century has passed since my motorcycle was manufactured, and many of its parts were reaching the end of their service life. In order to preserve its original performance, I decided to implement every possible modern internal combustion treatment and incorporated a wide range of countermeasure parts.
Thanks to this comprehensive treatment, my Mach was awarded the prestigious First Place at the Concours d’Elegance hosted by Inoue Boring. I am deeply honored, especially as the engine condition and overall craftsmanship of the vehicle were highly praised.
For the engine, I used several of Inoue Boring’s original technologies, including the non-contact metallic crankshaft center seal LABYRI™ and the ICBM™ treatment, which involves aluminum sleeving of the cylinders, adding reinforcements to the exhaust ports, and plateau honing.
The result is a Mach that is not only elegant in appearance—but elegant at its core.

Reviving the Orange H1-B: My Experience with Inoue Boring's ICBM™ Cylinder Treatment
After years of storage, I decided to bring my cherished Kawasaki 500SS Mach III (H1-B), affectionately known as the "Orange Machine," back to life. It's been over a decade since its full restoration, during which time I also worked on other bikes, but the Orange Machine has always remained with me.
With encouragement from Mr. Inoue of Inoue Boring, I opted for their ICBM™ (Inoue Boring Cylinder Bore Finishing Method) treatment. This innovative technique replaces the original cast-iron sleeve with an aluminum sleeve, coated with a special plating, allowing for a fresh start from the standard bore size—even for engines that have experienced seizures.
Previously, I had installed a Wiseco 100OS piston due to past seizures, but I expressed my desire to return to the standard size when renewing the vehicle inspection. Mr. Inoue assured me, "That's exactly when ICBM™ is the solution!"
Taking this opportunity, I wanted to go beyond a simple ICBM™ conversion. I aimed to incorporate a "bridge port" into the intake port—a feature found in the earliest H1 models, known for its unique shape but also its tendency to cause seizures. With ICBM™, such port shapes are no longer a concern, making this an exciting prospect.
I didn’t just stop at the look—I set out to recreate that original factory feel and unique riding character, and the result has been a spectacular success—I’m absolutely thrilled. By expanding the scavenging area at the cylinder base to approach a bridge-port setup, the finished ride has exceeded every expectation, and I can’t stop grinning!
